Hvitträsk, Fiskars, Billnäs and Mustio – Architecture and handicrafts along the Old Kings Road
There are many attractions along the Old Kings Road in Southern Finland. Amongst them is the former architects home Hvitträsk built in national romantic style and situated next to a lake of the same name. Hvitträsk is a building complex consisting of three buildings. One of them – the former residence of the famous Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen – is now housing a unique museum, a must-see for architecture enthusiasts. The building complex also includes a restaurant and a sauna available for guests.

The Fiskars ironworks is only a few minutes away from Hvitträsk and supposed to be one of Finland’s most beautiful villages. It is home to a co-operative of designers and artists who live and work in historical ironworks and arrange popular exhibitions attracting tourists from far and near.

Just a stone throw away is Billnäs, another former ironworks and embedded in a near-natural environment where lovers of nature may find whatever they are longing for. Nowadays the antiques market of Billnäs is an insider tip among design lovers and welcoming locals and tourists alike. If you would like to spend more time in this beautiful location, you will find charming cafés, museums and boarding houses dating from the 19th century.

If you have a little more time we recommend a visit to Mustio located just “around the corner”. Mustio is one of the most traditional Finnish mansions with a rich history and can be visited as a part of a guided tour. Be sure to take a stroll through the wonderful park before you leave this idyllic place.
