Porvoo
Old town with idyllic wooden houses Porvoo is the second oldest town in Finland about 50 km east of Helsinki and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Southern Finland. You can reach Porvoo either by bus or we can gladly organise a boat trip for you. The boat trip takes about three hours and on the way there, you will be fascinated by the beautiful archipelago. Porvoo was granted town status in the 14th century and is one of the treasures in the history of Finnish architecture. The town plan dates from the Middle Ages and the low small houses, picturesque yards and narrow streets form a historically unique wooden town milieu. The symbols of Porvoo – the red warehouses on the riverbanks – tell the story of seafaring and trading. Enjoy a guided walking tour through some of the cobblestone streets of this charming old town packed with wooden buildings. Worth visiting is also the Cathedral, the “crown” of Old Porvoo, from the 15th century. Immerse yourself in the world of poets and thinkers who were inspired by the lovely surroundings. Wander around and let your thoughts take you to times past! In addition, we can offer you a visit to a historical mansion in Porvoo which has been visited by the Russian Tsar to enjoy a good cup of tea. |
